Part 1 in a 4-part series on educational advocacy for children of trauma.
Open to the Public
Presented by:
Cristy Horsley, Advocate Manager and Community Outreach & Education Coordinator at CASA of Central Virginia
This training will deal with big picture concepts around common issues faced by CASA children & other children of trauma within the educational setting. We will review a foster child's right to educational stability; discuss how a CASA can leverage their info-gathering and advocate to good effect for their child in the school setting, whether or not the child has an IEP. We will address common objections our children face when we request a comprehensive assessment, and we will also discuss how to incorporate and equip the biological parent within school advocacy, in conjunction with permanency goals.
CASA volunteers will earn 2 in-service hours.
