"Stressed brains can't learn."
Lynchburg Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with HumanKind and Bridges of Central Virginia, hosts a 2-hour documentary screening at Miller Center. Paper Tigers shows the unlikely success story of a high school previously riddled with drugs, violence, and truancy that has become a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families. The documentary follows a year in the life of an alternative school that radically changed its approach to disciplining students, now focusing on understanding and treatment rather than judgment and suspension.
