Val hails from the Southern California area, spending her first career as a Los Angeles Police Detective, investigating assaults and supervising officers in Internal Affairs. Retiring after twenty years of service, she homeschooled her two boys for the following six years. During this time, her family traversed the country in their RV, settling each summer in Western NY, where her extended family lived. It was crossing the country that she and her family fell in love with Virginia each time they passed through.

While seeking her master’s degree in student counseling from Liberty University, the family spent a year in Lynchburg while she completed her internship at Bedford County schools. Never wanting to leave the beautiful Central Virginia area, she and her family permanently moved here in 2016. Val spent four years working in Liberty University’s Title IX office and discovered CASA and its’ purpose of advocating for children through conversations with one of CASA’s Superhero/villains. With her experience with victims of crimes, the Courts, and counseling children, she knew CASA was a perfect fit for her. Val became a CASA volunteer advocate in 2023 and has recently joined the CASA office as the newest advocate manager.

Outside of work, Val enjoys bicycling, gardening, and participating in CrossFit at the Jamerson YMCA. Oh, and spoiling her two dogs…. or any other pups coming across her path.
