What if the School Says No? Educational Advocacy After Being Denied
Part 3 in a 4-part series on educational advocacy for children of trauma.
Open to the Public
Presented by:
Melissa Waugh, J.D. MPH, Special Education Attorney, Belkowitz Law, PLLC
This session will focus on what advocacy you can pursue when your request has been declined: when the school has denied your request for comprehensive assessment of a child; when a child has been assessed but the school did not find him eligible for an IEP; when the school denies your request for specific services, as well as other processes such as how to request an Independent Evaluation; and how to file a state complaint. We will also discuss common obstacles to assessment, eligibility, or appropriate supports/services and how to navigate past those objections. Participants will need to attend part 2 to be ready for concepts explored in this session.
CASA volunteers will earn 2 in-service hours.
